Moses at some point got to a junction in his life having fled Egypt and running away from Pharaoh’s wrath. At this time he was a shepherd, he was a hireling, he was paid as a shepherd for his father – in - law.
On one particular day, he led the flock to the backside of Mount Horeb also called Mount Sinai little did he know that this Mountain will be a landmark in his life. What he saw on the bush did not fit a natural occurrence in life because he saw a bush that was on fire yet the bush did not burn.
Most times when God wants to get our attention we misconstrue it to think that the devil is at work. A lot of us have received indicators from God that something is about to happen and God is saying, “I need you to go and inquire, I need you to come into your closet, I need you to move away from work and let us just talk, I need you to just stay with your Bible let me show you something.”
Though these spiritual indicators keep coming we do not understand them and as a result we are losing those things that give us an edge over unbelievers. You cannot live a natural life as a believer because there is an advantage you have in the Holy Ghost.
There are three levels of relationship that you can have with the Lord as explained in the scriptures: Jesus as Saviour, Jesus as Lord, Jesus as Friend. If He remains your Saviour and you do not move farther than that you can never get the best of God.
This encounter Moses was had was not that of salvation, Moses had gotten saved while he was in Egypt. Even though Moses was an Egyptian outside, that is, his flesh was Egyptian however, his spirit was Hebrew and the Hebrews are the people of God.
In other words, inside of him he was a son of God outside of him he was of the world. There came a point in his life when He had to choose, if he will remain an Egyptian, that is, will he walk in the flesh or will he surrender his Spirit and receive his true identity in God? The moment he made the choice to be a Jew, he needed to kill the Egyptian and he didn’t just kill the Egyptian he needed to bury the Egyptian.
This is why you cannot kill Egypt and remain in Egypt. If you are going to surrender your heart to Jesus, you cannot remain in the flesh, Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
What God wants from us is for us to be His friends (John 15:15) “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” God wants a more intimate relationship us.
The soul is where the seat of decisions is. The soul has three chambers: the emotions, the intellect, your will. The three of them combined forms your character. Everything about our lives is about choices and God designed us to be free-will beings. God had decided that he will never influence the will of man. God does not control any part of us until we surrender it to him and that’s our will.
When Moses got to the burning bush, remember God had been on the mountain before Moses got there. When Moses saw that the bush was not consumed, he said,” I will now turn aside.” The word ‘now’ is pregnant because it suggests two possibilities: this is not the first time he had seen the sight, he had seen it before but it never meant anything to him; it is also possible that this is the first time that he is seeing this sight but he kept processing in his head what it means, looking for a scientific explanation to the meaning of the sight but after having looked at it for a while he said, “You know what, I will now turn aside.” Now to “turn aside” means three things, now these three things gives you an idea of how you can get the best of God. These three things that he did here are the keys to having the best of God.
Three keys you need to get the best of God:
1. You must turn aside from some things. They may not necessarily be sinful things but they are things that take your attention from God.
2. You must turn aside to see. It is important for you to not only move away from sin but you must be walking towards God. You need to start seeking God not for what He is but for who He is. You need to seek Him for fellowship and relationship. When you have a right heart to seek God He directs your path.
3. Remove your shoes from your feet where you are standing is Holy ground. The moment Moses did the two things above God showed up, God said, “This one is ready for me” so He told him to take off his shoes because where he was standing was holy ground. Because of what happened on mount Horeb it became impossible for Pharaoh to overcome Moses. The moment Moses removed his shoe something significant happened, that was where he took his will and gave it to God. The moment you hand over your shoe to God, God becomes you and you become God. Therefore it becomes impossible for you to fail.
The reason why a lot of people are still losing is because your will is still in your hands. To surrender your will is to hand over your rights to God. If you want to get the best of God you can’t have your will in your hands
